The Frog/Toad of Loch Lomond

Imagine, if you will, that you are a toad. You think to yourself, "what an awesome Friday night. It's dark and moist and not a soul is around. I think I'll go for a wee hop around Balmaha at Loch Lomond".

Well this poor wee fella thought just that on Friday night. Sadly I disturbed his path. We had a good stare out contest and I waited patiently for him to hop around on camera. He was not game. I eventually gave up.

Here is the video though:

Our Protector and Saviour: Vikings No More

They gave us the fighting spirit and are most probably responsible for giving us the ginger hair so many of us are cursed/ blessed with. They came from Denmark and are known as the Vikings and for a time they ruled a good deal of Scotland's West Coast and all of our islands.

After a hard won battle in Largs on the West Coast we are left with a legacy that has impacted the country in many ways - albeit a little more subtely than most of our other influences.

But what if they come back again? Thankfully we have out own protector. The mighty Irvine Dragon stands guard over the western coast at Irvine Beach Park to keep us safe once and for all. Long may it protect us!

Where Faeries Come From: A Voyage into Pucks Glen

They call it Puck's Glen - a place so magical that simply entering it makes you forget where you come from and who you are. It's the closest thing you'll get in real life to Peter Pan's Never Never Land and the only place in West Scotland you can truly feel like you have been transported to the rainforest.

The stairs that lead up and down its winding paths take you deeper into the glen, each step leading further into your own personal fairytale. Nothing prepares you for the wonder and intrigue each twist in the path leads to. As you pass through the narrow voids and over the rushing rapids you can't help but let your mind wander. Is this where Scotland's faerie tales begin? Is this where the stories are born from?

It's certainly a unique experience to take some time to stroll through the lush green vegetation - best visited after or during heavy rainfall. If you get tired of the city and the toils of town life then there really isn't a better place to spend your afternoon.

Welcome to the newest blog from Student Tours Scotland. We've tried elsewhere but it seems like Blogger is the place to.

We'll be offering a travel blog to run alongside the other social media of Student Tours Scotland. Annoucements, photos that we think are just plain cool, competitions that you can get involved with, tour reviews and so much more.

First here is a sneak peek at one of the places we were recently - the legendary lush forests of Puck's Glen in Cowal in West Scotland. A fairytale wonderland full of adventure.
